2024 Conference Details

Our founder Sue shares everything you need to know about the 2024 International Bra Bee Conference!

The Beginner Experience includes BOTH the Beginner Experience and the main 2024 Conference.

Are you ready to make the best fitting bra ever?

The Bra Bee’s annual 2024 conference is going to help you take your bra and lingerie sewing journey to the next level and make lifelong friends along the way. The 2024 Conference runs April 13th – May 18th with a live classes day on April 27th 2024. The Conference is going to be focused on getting your perfect fit, starting with your fitting band. Getting the perfect fitting band without cups gives you a foundation for the best fit that can be incorporated into any bra. In 2024, we’re also launching more informal “community” events to gather, sew, and perfect our fit together in our new platform called The Hive.

We have an amazing team of teachers, for example, Monica is back and teaching live! Monica will share how to put your fitting band in a less supportive garment so that anyone can wear that garment with the added support! Alison is also back and teaching live! Alison will be sharing how to draft an underbust corset, in preparation for a full corset for the 2025 Bee.

In addition to live classes, use our accompanying sew-alongs to make a Marlborough Bra, a full set, and MORE! Get ALL the details below or watch this quick video from our founder Sue to learn all about the 2024 Bra Bee!

our NEW COMMUNITY

The Hive

The Hive is a members only platform for all the bra sewists around the world. If you’ve ever wanted a group of friends who are into bra sewing they are waiting for you right here! We’ve made this community both organized and private so all photos, discussions and questions stay safe. It’s a dedicated space to get help, chat about your fabric stash, show off your makes, find new friends with similar lingerie aesthetics and have dedicated spaces to talk about all the projects and patterns our community has made together.

The hive also hosts over 80 community events and classes outside of our annual conference and beginner experience. Topics include class of the month, mixers, fitting forums, and chats with experts, pattern designers and shop owners.

You get access to The Hive as soon as you register! The access to The Hive ends on May 18th. You may choose to purchase a monthly subscription to The Hive after the Conference has ended.

Beginner Experience

Our Beginner Experience is a virtual 8-week guided journey to sew your first bra. We’ve set up an event so you can make your first bra alongside friends and experts. As a community, we will walk together one step at a time from March 30th to May 18th. At the end of this journey you’ll know your measurements, the techniques for sewing with bra fabrics, the order for constructing a bra, and how to make basic fitting adjustments. Best of all, you’ll have sewn yourself a cute and comfy wireless Sahaara bra! We know you can do this. Are you ready to join in?

Meet the 2024 Bra Bee conference Teachers

I spend every day chirping with joy like a little cricket as I find beautiful fabrics, laces, elastics and tools for you. I am eager to give every budding bra builder the tools, materials and advice that I needed as I began my bra-making journey, and to support every bra builder as they create. I’m enough of an engineer to care very much that what you get works really well. I’m enough of an artist to care very much that it is beautiful. I’ve been working with fabrics and sewing for a very long time, so I choose the best that I can find.

Monica is a self-proclaimed geek, teacher, a mother to two wonderful boys (Ben Michael & Sam). She has a B.A., a B.S., and is credentialed to teach physics, chemistry, and math. Monica’s educational background and experience has allowed her to approach the pattern making and design process from a very scientific angle. To her, patterns are nothing more than complex mathematical nets and a bra is an engineered structure designed to support mass.

I run Rubies Custom Bras (a friend named it after combining Ruhee + boobies over a night involving too many drinks) in my private studio, along with my marketing coaching practice. I also released a new wirefree bra pattern last year called The Sahaara, designed for those looking for a relaxed and minimal look without compromising comfort and support.

I enjoy an advanced level of construction detail, often a vintage style, sometimes whimsical, whilst aspiring to achieve a high level of elegance and finesse. Over the years I have enjoyed many modalities: weddings, men’s tailoring (I studied men’s pattern making and private order dressmaking in the early 1990s), millinery, but lingerie has always been a major passion. I have also been learning shoemaking.

I spent years dismantling and upcycling my old clothes, creating styles that caught everyone’s eye.  I got my first sewing machine at 12 years old, and I’ve been sewing ever since. I followed my dreams and spent 30 years in the fashion industry in retail, merchandising and sales.  I have been taught by some of the top designers in the industry and I want to share what I have learned over the decades with you.

I have always loved to sew and I really love a challenge, so I was the first to sign up when I saw an ad for a bra-making course. I have been in business for over 15 years and my favourite part about it is still the confidence I am able to give my customers. People from as far away as Australia to as close as next door have come for their own, comfortable, sexy, made-to-measure, wires-never-poking, custom bra.

I am a self-taught sewist with a background in mechanical engineering. My long-suffering Singer Prelude used to only come out for Halloween costumes, but when the pandemic hit, I started making custom masks for my family, friends and neighbors. I realized that if I can sew a curved seam, I could make myself a bra. Making myself a supportive, well-fitting and shapely bra turned out to be a much bigger challenge than I expected! Two years later, I've had a multitude of failures and a few successes, and I have learned something from each of them. My approach to teaching and learning is inspired by Ms. Frizzle: "Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!"

Why did we switch it up this year?

We wanted this year’s bee to focus on a single topic to help build your skills. We are going to have more classes, sew-alongs, meetups, and other fun things going on throughout the year! It isn’t just the Conference this year, it is a whole community at The Hive. This year you will be sewing with other sewists, not just watching a class. You get to participate before and after the Conference! Join us for a Sahaara sew in The Hive and then learn a variety of techniques to spiff it up!

The Hive

We added The Hive this year so you have more ways to connect! You get access to The Hive as soon as you purchase The Conference. There are so many things planned throughout the year that you can choose to subscribe and learn all year long while sewing with other sewists and teachers!

2024 (1)
Odessa

Why The Hive?

We wanted to make sure our technology is organized, easy to access, and as easy to use as possible. The Hive allows us to have everything in one space and keep it easy to use! You can enjoy The Hive (our online community), The Bra Bee Academy, and many other items all in one place!

Why Attend The 2024 Conference?

Sign up for this year’s Conference to learn all about getting the perfect fit! You will learn how to make the perfect fitting band and insert it into garments that don’t have a lot of support to give them support! Add your fitting band to an Odessa corset, and learn how to draft an underbust corset. Use the sew-alongs to make a full set using the underwear tutorial and Marlborough Bra tutorials, and more before and after the Conference! You also get access to The Hive!
