This class if for the experienced bra maker – advanced beginner/ intermediate – a bra maker that loves the look and comfort of a longline bra and would like to customize new bra design.
Experienced makers will learn the skill of taking their favorite well-fitting bra and use the current and new measurements to extend to a longline design. Beginners will learn how to create a longline bra from a traditional bra – wired and wireless.
I have made several longline bra for several reasons: They are cute! This bra design provides a different fit and comfort – think a longline bra provides fit and comfort like a boot does for your foot and leg. Mastering the fit of a longline bra comes from taking measurements and extending them to your body, customizing the fit. Not all longline designs are the same, customization is the key.
I am excited to share a new skill and knowledge beyond traditional bra design. Bra makers love a reason to wear a new design, especially with a custom fit.
Nikki Sewing My Style
As an 8-year-old child at my grandmother’s knee, I begged her to teach me to sew on her broken machine. My grandmother’s spirit of determination was not going to stop her from teaching me this valuable craft. One hot summer day, she gathered me and some fabric and taught me how to make my first garment…by hand. Without the use of a machine, I cut and created about 10 halter tops and was the most fashionable little girl on the block.
After my halter top creation, I spent years dismantling and upcycling my old clothes, creating styles that caught everyone’s eye. I got my first sewing machine at 12 years old, and I’ve been sewing ever since.
I followed my dreams and spent 30 years in the fashion industry in retail, merchandising and sales. I have been taught by some of the top designers in the industry and I want to share what I have learned over the decades with you. Consider this your invitation into the community that I have built!
- Experienced bra makers should begin with their favorite bra pattern, wired or wireless
- Measuring tape
- straight ruler
- marking chalk
- pencil and paper
Beginners can look at a wireless bra pattern option to get started, example: Sahaara Wireless
You can shop your stash, shop where you like online or in store, or buy a kit from Bra Builders.
This class will be taught live in a presentation style with Nikki. Starting one week prior to the class, you will be able to find the handout for the class here in our Hive community.
