Liz Our Lady of Perpetual Fitting

Liz is a theater/television/film wardrobe professional, proud IATSE Local 764 member, widowed mom of two teen boys, salsa dancer, yogi, former chef, home birth activist, acupuncture student, crazy dog lady and all around curious wormhole explorer. The handle @ourladyofperpetualfitting comes from her mostly Irish Catholic upbringing and experience in all girls Catholic school around the time she started wearing bras. Wearing a uniform for 12 years made underwear her only personal expression and she could not be contained! She started sewing in earnest as a teen, making dancewear and designing costumes to accompany her choreography while doing a modern dance major at Sarah Lawrence College. That parlayed into making little bralette and shortie sets for showgirls once she was working in wardrobe on Broadway as a young adult. Her work as a Key Tailor can currently be seen on the TV series Harlem, WeCrashed, Law and Order, Succession, Ray Donovan, The Post and many, many others. Having concentrated largely on suit and detective shows, Liz has tons of experience with menswear and finds that bra-making has really honed those skills. Working in TV and film typically involves ready to wear and a time crunch, so 25 years of that have led to an extremely diverse skill set on every kind of garment, every kind of alteration, and every kind of body. This has provided a really unique perspective when it comes to bra making, fitting, drafting and modifying patterns.

Materials Needed

The materials needed for this class will be posted soon. You can shop your stash, shop where you like online or in store, or buy a kit from Bra Builders.

Sew alongs are our chance to make this project together in The Hive. You’ll have the most fun participating if you have these materials on hand and ready to go. Your local fabric or craft store will probably not have everything you need so make sure to place an order online with enough time for shipping.
