Fitting Bands Workshop

Class Overview

The Odessa Corset Top is darling, but some gals prefer a bit more support. Join Monica as she shows how to put your fitting band and a sling into this darling garment to make it suitable for everyone! She will take the fitting band that she showed you how to construct in the Fitting Band Sew-Along and install it in the Odessa. You can use this same technique for all sorts of garments!

  • Learn embedding a fitting band into a garment to create extra internal support. The example I’m using is a garment that is designed to have bust support from the compression of the garment itself – I will show how to create more shape and reduce the amount of needed compression from the garment by creating internal support from a fitting band with a partial cup.
  • For the intermediate to advanced
  • You already have a decent grasp of bra making and garment construction. You also understand the basic theory of pattern adjustments
  • I’ve designed and created many different types of garments with bras embedded in the design
  • I will show how to make a garment work for a greater number of people, be able to play with the balance between fit/structure and style, be able to use it for a costume, lol!

Monica BravoBella

Monica is a self-proclaimed geek, teacher, a mother to two wonderful boys (Ben Michael & Sam). She has a B.A., a B.S., and is credentialed to teach physics, chemistry, and math. Monica’s educational background and experience has allowed her to approach the pattern making and design process from a very scientific angle. To her, patterns are nothing more than complex mathematical nets and a bra is an engineered structure designed to support mass.

BravoBella combines Monica’s love of science, sewing, and teaching. She considers herself a teacher at the core of her being and hopes to empower her customers through her classes and instructional materials.

Outside of BravoBella and teaching, you can find Monica spending quality time with her family, training as a black belt martial artist, or hanging with her sewing group over a glass of wine.

Bra Builders Kit

Materials Needed

If you want to try it out, I’m using the Cambia and Odessa patterns and all the materials needed for those.

You can shop your stash, shop where you like online or in store, or buy a kit from Bra Builders.

This class will be taught live in a presentation style with Monica. Starting one week prior to the class, you will be able to find the handout for the class here in our Hive community. Join the community so you can share what materials you are using with other sewists in the class and chat before the class goes live!
